A much used term for perpetrators of sexual abuse of children is paedophile. Paedophilia is a clinical term for adults who are primarily sexually attracted to pre-pubertal children. A very small percentage of the perpetrators of sexual exploitation of children is paedophile. The term perpetrators is for this reason a better term, because it describes a person who sexually abuses children. Perpetrators come from all layers of the population. They can be found in each country and every profession. They can be heterosexual or homosexual. Although the majority of the perpetrators is male, there are also female perpetrators.
