The travel industry has an important role in the battle against child sex tourism.



Mario

With the name Mario started at the beginning of 2009 a three-year project with four international organizations working on the protecting  of children from sexual exploitation. The NGOs are ECPAT, Nobody's Children Foundation, Save the Children in Albania and Terre des Hommes-Child Relief. The ultimate goal of the project is that at the end of 2011 children who are victims of sexual exploitation and trafficking - or children who are at high risk - have access to services that have a minimum quality standard at national and transnational level.


Project objectives

1. Identification and capacity building of respective service providers to raise the standards of services in child protection issues.

2. Transnational level: Effective and rapid response is provided to changing trends of child exploitation/ trafficking in Europe

3. Advocacy: Protection standards and rights of children at risk and/or victims of exploitation/ trafficking are promoted at national and regional level

4. Cooperation: The four leading NGO in the field of child protection and their networks coordinate their activities and exchange information on a regular basis


Many countries are involved within the project, namely those where trafficked children come from, such as Albania, Kosovo, Bulgaria, Belarus, Ukraine and Poland, countries where trafficked children are brought to, such as Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Hungary (transit country), Greece and Macedonia. The project is funded by the OAK Foundation.
